CHILDREN SAFETY CAMPAIGN

-

THE City of Joburg’s department of public safety launched a children’s safety campaign in partnership with the Newclare Primary School in Westbury this week.

This coincides with local and international celebrations for Children’s Month throughout November.

The day started off with the city’s member of the mayoral committee for public safety, Michael Sun, together with the Joburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) conducting scholar transport safety inspections, as well as engaging drivers on legal compliance.

The programme was officially opened by the school’s principal Derick Eastwood who has been with the school for 37 years.

Sun said: “It was important for us to return to Newclare after the shooting incident in July which left many children and residents traumatised. We were there not only to ensure the community is kept safe, but also to recognise those members of the community needing assistance. I personally want to thank these brave men and women for their active citizenry.”

School teachers Derek Brain Eastwood, Rhoma Doubell, Tshepo Senekoane, Anita Beverley Williams and councillors Mureeda Jadwat and Fatema Farred received certificates of appreciation for their active citizenry.

As part of the campaign, the teachers at Newclare Primary will take part in two days of basic firefighting and first aid training.

The department will continue to roll-out educational programmes to other schools to promote safety and the wellbeing of the children of our city.
