New concrete barrier promises safety for residents and road users

CASSIM DAVIDS WRITES: I reside in La Rochelle Road, Glenesk. On December 20, 2013 a vehicle crashed into the barrier in front of my house.

The following day, City Parks removed the damaged barrier.

I put tyres in front of my property as a makeshift barrier.

Again on September 21, another vehicle crashed into this.

To date, it has not been replaced and I thus feel vulnerable.

I have resided in the street for more than 12 years and the barriers have had to be replaced at least six times.

I would recommend that it be replaced with a concrete barrier.

THE JRA REPLIES: Thank you for bringing the matter to our attention. After an inspection was conducted, it was learnt that speeding motor vehicles pose a high risk to the area and also damage the guard rails.

JRA has decided to replace the guardrails with a new concrete barrier which is to be installed this week.

We trust this solution will ensure the safety of both residents and road users.
