On journey to celebrate greatness
Tomorrow’s Metro FM awards are where it’s at
IT IS all systems go for tomorrow evening’s muchanticipated Metro FM Music Awards at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban.
The event will see the country’s leading music acts battle it out for top honours in the music station’s annual event.
Show organisers remained tight-lipped yesterday, with station spokeswoman Happy Ngidi unavailable to take questions from the media.
The show is expected to be co-hosted by TV presenter and actress Minnie Dlamini alongside the station’s DJ, Tbo Touch.
Since Wednesday, the dazzling Dlamini has been giving her 315 000 Instagram followers updates of backstage event preparations and rehearsals, accompanied by pictures.
Touch posted a picture of himself and his co-host on Twitter yesterday afternoon.
The picture is captioned “Powerful Duo KickButt Saturday @iamtbotouch @MinnieDlamini All the Best #MMA14”.
His weekday 3pm to 6pm show was broadcast live from uShaka Marine World.
On the station’s lunchtime show, The Secret Ingredient, hosted by Siphokazi January and Amon Mokoena, the duo spoke about how excited they were to host the event.
Dlamini said she would change into five outfits during the extravaganza.
Touch said he would be dressed by top local designer David Tlale.
In an undated statement, the station said 21 awards would be presented.
“With sizzling hot performances and collaborations, this year’s production will take viewers on a journey to celebrate greatness!” it said.
The “jam-packed show” will start at 8pm and run for two hours. It will be broadcast on SABC1, with regular updates on the station’s social media platforms.
It was unclear last night how many tickets were still available. Prices range from R300 for general circle tickets to R600 for golden, and are on sale at Computicket.
On its Facebook page, the station posted a picture of a sneak peek of how the venue was coming together.
“Get ready for the most spectacular show this year,” read the caption.
The song of the year category is expected to be the biggest award of the evening.
The category is contested by AKA for Congratulate, Cassper Nyovest ( Doc Shebeleza and Phuma Kim), Beatenberg ( Rafael), The Soil ( Susan), Euphonik ( Busa), Black Motion ( Rainbow), DJ Dimplez ( Yaya), DJ Fisherman ( Call out) and Kelly Khumalo with Asine.
