GAMERS, tech geeks and gadget freaks are readying themselves for their kind of Christmas – the annual rAge Expo.

From October 9, lovers of all things technological have three days to take in their pick of consoles, PC video games, computer hardware, comics and gaming apparel, as well as accessories.

Enthusiasts can also live out their fantasies by dressing up as their favourite characters for the Cosplay competition.

There will also be a 52-hour gaming marathon, where 2 500 people can bring their own computers and face off against as well as team up with other attendees.

Senior project manager of rAge Expo Michael James said the idea to start it came to him after attending similar expos in other countries.

“I used to go to other expos and I realised there was nothing in this country like that.”

So, using the contact he had made working at NAG magazine, a tech publication, he pitched the idea, and soon the first rAge was held in 2002.

“Our exhibitors know our audience, so they bring things that cater to both adults and children.”

James said attendees can expect a lot of new virtualreality technology, adding that the expo showed how South Africa was on the frontlines of technology. “This country is pretty on the cutting edge when it comes to gadgets and games. We’re not behind at all.”

Tickets for the expo cost R100 a person or R250 for a weekend ticket. They can be bought at Computicket.
