The Star Early Edition

Groban to host new talent search show

- MUNYA VOMO

JUSTwhen you think you have heard it all, TV producers come up with some more great shows. Their favourite genre, which must make a lot of money, has to be talent search shows. With The Voice hitting our shores, Rising Star is making its maiden voyage on American and international TV.

The show is looking for singers and will attempt to do this in a very different way to other singing talent shows. Making use of the technology we have, the audience will vote via an app which will then show exactly how people feel about a particular performance.

Singer Josh Groban ( pictured) will host the show which should be interesting seeing that we have never seen this side of him. There will be a panel of music experts who include superstar Brad Paisley, pop sensation Kesha and rapper and actor Ludacris. They will give their honest opinions on the performances.

The great thing about the show is that they use the app which is instant. On Idols SA we have to wait a whole week and then there are some independent people who audit the results before they are announced. It is such a tedious process.

But on Rising Star, people will fiddle with their cellphones as the show is airing and you will know who is where by the end of it. It’s immediate and that helps.

Other than that, it is just another show that is looking for singers, like the rest of them. It will be interesting to see Ludacris on the panel judging the acts as we have never seen him in this role. Kesha and Paisley are also accomplished musicians and it will be great to hear them imparting their knowledge.

season one airs on Fridays on Vuzu (DStv channel 116) at 8.30pm.
