Gambler fined over dud cheques

A MAN who issued worthless cheques to a company trading in soccer and racing bets received a suspended prison sentence yesterday. Marc Berton O’Connor, 37, of Brackenfel­l in Cape Town, appeared before magistrate Sabrina Sonnenberg in the Specialise­d Commercial Crime Court in Bellville. He was also fined R6 700 or six months’ imprisonme­nt, but was permitted to pay the fine off in monthly instalment­s of R1 340. The case involved a plea bargain. – ANA
