Gambler fined over dud cheques
A MAN who issued worthless cheques to a company trading in soccer and racing bets received a suspended prison sentence yesterday. Marc Berton O’Connor, 37, of Brackenfell in Cape Town, appeared before magistrate Sabrina Sonnenberg in the Specialised Commercial Crime Court in Bellville. He was also fined R6 700 or six months’ imprisonment, but was permitted to pay the fine off in monthly instalments of R1 340. The case involved a plea bargain. – ANA
