Odom may have kidney failure after drug binge
LOS ANGELES: Lamar Odom may need to get a transplant as his kidneys are still failing and have yet to recover after his recent bender at a Nevada brothel.
TMZ celebrity website spoke to a source familiar with the basketball star’s condition who said this was one of the reasons Odom was moved to Los Angeles for care as his “kidneys were shot”.
Odom was discharged from Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas on Monday night, less than a week after he was found unconscious from a near-fatal overdose. He is now at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
According to reports, the one-time NBA great has been breathing on his own this week after collapsing last Tuesday and was even able to tell his estranged wife, Khloe Kardashian: “I love you”.
E! News reported that Khloe rode in the helicopter with her husband when he was airlifted to LA. Odom was previously prohibited from being airlifted because of his condition. He is now making progress and can move his arms and legs. However, he has been unable to stand up, even with assistance.
A CT scan came back clean, but there may be some cognitive issues ahead. E! also reported that he recently passed a swallowing test, which is a good sign of neurological function. Odom has months of treatment ahead of him as he continues to recover.
On Monday, the Daily Mail Online obtained photos from inside the Love Ranch brothel suite where Odom romped with two prostitutes and consumed a mystery cocktail of drink and drugs.
The first of the three pictures shows the 35-year-old sitting on a couch, looking drained and dishevelled. His head is bowed and his eyes are barely open as he clasps a bottle of water, wearing a red Tshirt. A woman’s bare legs can also be seen in the shot, which was taken between 7.30pm and 8.30pm – 18 hours before Odom was found unconscious with white foam dripping from his mouth.
In the second and third images, the former athlete is seen sprawled across a kingsize bed.
Love Ranch sources say the images were taken by one of the two prostitutes who Odom picked out of a line-up when he arrived at the remote sex den in Crystal, Nevada, on Saturday.
Petite blondes Ryder Cherry and Monica Monroe visited him as often as six times a day for “private party sessions” before entering his room and finding him unconscious at 2.30pm last Tuesday.
Lamar was initially thought to have taken cocaine and herbal Viagra. However, he had in fact taken a “speedball” – an intravenous injection of cocaine with heroin or methadone. Medics had found a needle mark on Lamar’s arm and “every drug imaginable” in his system.
“The girl who took these pictures has kept the timestamps because she believes it proves that he was okay when she left him,” a source said.
