- MOTORSPORT CORRESPONDENT

THIS year’s Extreme Festival series ended in style at the Zwartkops Raceway near Pretoria on Saturday, with more than 300 competitors and 27 races keeping a large crowd entertained throughout the day.

Most of the season’s championships were concluded, the most important one going to Hennie Groenewald who clinched the overall National Production Car championship in his Sasol Audi S4.

Groenewald was followed in the title chase by Michael Stephen (Engen Xtreme Audi S4).

Groenewald won the opening race and Stephen the second. Then, in the final, Groenewald took a narrow victory to write the country’s last Production Car Championship title behind his name.

Toby Venter (Porsche GT2B) won both the races for G&H Transport Extreme Supercars.

Teenager Sheldon van der Linde (Champion Polo), took the 2015 Engen Volkswagen Cup title by scoring a second and a third place on the day. This is subject to an outstanding appeal lodged at the penultimate round. Tasmin Pepper (PG Glass Polo) and Bradley Liebenberg (Ferodo Polo) took the two VW Cup race victories, respectively.

Andre de Lange (IDG Gearbox Ford Fiesta) took the season’s overall and Class C titles in the Leisure Grass Superhatch category.

The Class A title victory went to Hilton van Nieuwenhuizen (ASAP Citroen C2), with Morne Human (X35 Energy Golf) scooping up the year’s Class B accolade.

Graeme van Breda (IVID ZX10R) arrived at Zwartkops as this year’s crowned Red Square Kawasaki Masters champion. He confirmed the status by winning the category’s single 20-lap race.

Daryn Upton (Turn-Skill Kawasaki) clinched the Thunderbike title with a third place in the opening race. He finished behind Dean Vos (Trojan Kawasaki) and Greg Gildenhuys (Autohaus BMW).

The second race victory went to Garrick Vlok (BMW), ahead of Vos and Upton.

Robert Wolk (Investchem Mygale) clinched the year’s Formula 1600 Duratec title by scoring points in both the day’s races. Dewald Brummer (MAD Mygale) won both times.

Adrian Dalton (Xtra Shoes Golf Turbo), won both the Speed & Sound 111 Sport and Saloon Car races.

Alan Holm (Office Direct Vee) won both of the day’s Hankook Formula Vee races.

Veteran Rui Campos won the first of the day’s National Sports car Challenge races in his new Shelby Can Am. Jason Campos took over the car to win heat two.

James Hurley (The Starter Pack Polo) won both the Comsol VW Challenge races.

The next race meeting at Zwartkops will be the 2016 Historic Vehicle International in January.
