Another cop nabbed for graft
ANOTHER North West traffic officer was arrested on Saturday for soliciting bribes, bringing to two the number of provincial officers nabbed in anti-corruption stings in a week, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) said yesterday. The officer was caught by an undercover agent of the national Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit on the N12 between Wolmaransstad and Klerksdorp, RTMC spokesman Simon Zwane said. The officer, who was allegedly using a speed enforcement operation to solicit R100 bribes from motorists, was due to appear in court today. On Wednesday, a North West traffic officer was arrested when he allegedly solicited a bribe from an undercover anti-corruption agent in Klerksdorp. Zwane said the RTMC had prioritised anti-corruption measures in an effort to improve compliance with road rules and reduce lawlessness. Sergeant Sebo Mathabatha of the Tshwane metro police department was arrested last month for soliciting a R100 bribe from an undercover agent. She appeared in the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court. Another traffic officer, Oupa Mashiya, attached to Emfuleni municipality, is on trial in Vanderbijlpark for soliciting bribes.
