Battle for Nelson Mandela Bay starts
THE BATTLE for control of the Nelson Mandela Bay metro has started in earnest in the Eastern Cape, with the UDM accusing the ANC of political posturing for laying a complaint against a DA councillor who referred to a colleague as a “bobbejaan”, without engaging them.
Chris Roberts was found guilty by the DA’s national disciplinary body, the federal legal commission, of having uttered the comment to UDM councillor Mongameli Bobani during a council meeting in Port Elizabeth in July last year.
He still serves as councillor as his party was mulling over what sanction to impose on him.
“Roberts said those barbaric comments during a council meeting. Speaker Maria Hermans, who is an ANC deployee, promised to investigate the matter. We are still waiting for her report on the matter. We were shocked when the ANC approached the Human Rights Commission to lay a complaint against Roberts without engaging us as a party.
“They could have come to us and said: ‘Look, we are with you on this and we condemn it.’ This is pure political posturing on their part. They are using this incident
The incident is being used as an electioneering tool
