Sport and entertainment show is sure to bring smiles to audience
SOUTH Africa’s first sports and entertainment comedy show, The Dan Nicholl Show, has been granted a second season by pay TV channel SuperSport.
Hosted by sports broadcaster Dan Nicholl, it features local and international sports and showbiz personalities.
The guests are invited for a light-hearted chat on Nicholl’s couch. He talks to them about their personal lives, achieve- ments, what they do for adventure and other aspects of their lives.
The show is modelled along most of American talk shows featuring live studio audience. During a pre-recording on Tuesday at SuperSport’s studios in Randburg, Nicholl kept guests and staff constantly bursting into laughter in the make-up room.
He hosted Bulls and Springbok player Trevor Nyakane, Proteas one-day and T20 star David Miller and former Miss South Africa Jo-Ann Strauss.
The audience drank wine and beer while experiencing the drama behind the scenes first-hand, as producers and directors paced up and down arranging the set.
Nicholl said the idea was to create a relaxed atmosphere for the guests to open up about various aspects of their lives.
“Some of my guests say on the show things that they have not said anywhere else. They feel at home.
“We knew the show would succeed because it offers a new side of conversation, without trying to brag.”
The normally reserved Nyakane showcased his dance moves for the audience. The 26-year-old prop said he was enjoying his rugby career after a difficult start.
“At this point in time I think I am living the dream, and I hope to still be doing it for next 10 or more years,” he said.
Miller reminisced about his early days in Pietermaritzburg.
The show was aired on SuperSport 1 last night.
