I recognise you, not you in a flash car

-

I RECENTLY parked in the covered parking area of the local shopping mall. The parking spot that I used unfortunately interfered with the passing traffic when I wanted to reverse out and leave.

Fortunately one of the approaching cars, driven by a middle-aged woman, flashed the headlights of her vehicle to indicate that she would wait for me to exit my parking spot. I did this, and as I passed this courteous driver, I waved my thanks to her for her courtesy.

She smiled in return before driving away.

While this woman had been waiting for me to exit my parking spot, another four cars had stopped behind her.

The first of these cars was a very fancy, and obviously very expensive, sports-type car driven by a youngish woman who completely ignored my wave of thanks for her courtesy.

All the drivers of the cars behind her smiled in acknowledgement of my wave of thanks.

As I left the parking area, I thought about the people in the cars that had waited for me to exit my parking spot, and especially the woman in the expensive car.

And it struck me that we all want to be recognised, but the truly sincere people want to be recognised for what they are, and not for what they have.

Truly sincere people want to be recognised for what they are...
