WITH JUST over a month to go till the annual Miss South Africa pageant, all the finalists have been given a R25 000 boost each.

This year’s title queen will walk away with R1 million and a number of prizes that will make her the richest Miss SA title holder yet.

The pageant also has a public voting system where the public can vote for who they want to see win. On the day of the event, those votes will have a 25% influence in the overall score that will be added to the judges’ 75%.

Proceeds from the SMS voting line will go towards the Cell C Girl Child Bursary Fund.

Voters will also stand a chance to win a weekend stay at The Palace of the Lost City hotel in Sun City and VIP tickets to attend the pageant and after-party.

The finalists will be using their R25 000 for different reasons.

“I plan on spoiling my sisters, who are my support structure, to a lovely dinner just to say thank you for all their love,” said Cape Town’s Adè van Heerden.

She said she would also be using the money to prepare herself for the pageant and all opportunities that come with it.

Iman Mkhwanazi from Lenasia plans to invest the money in a future business endeavour. “I’ll be saving the money and using it to invest in my cleaning company. I will buy cleaning material and equipment.”

Nompumelelo Mampholo, from Diepkloof, Soweto, said it felt like she had won the lottery.

“I have never had R25 000 to my name so it’s very exciting. I’m holding on to it for as long as I can and putting it into a savings account,” she said.

Odirile Sepeng from Mabopane, Tshwane, is going to invest in her Mind Over Matter project.

‘It’s an initiative that is dedicated to empowering and meeting the needs of children and the youth in underprivileged schools. I am grateful that this opportunity will enable us to fulfil our purpose in life and be active leaders in our communities,” she said.

Durban’s Priyeshka Lutchman said her Miss SA journey had been one filled with great family adventure.

“Some of the money will go to my parents. My mom needs to ensure our charity work continues and dad needs to keep me responsible and invest the rest.” She said she would spoil herself with a pair of shoes.

The pageant takes place on March 26 at Sun City.

This will enable us to help in our communities
