Calling SA’s lonely foodies

- MUNYA VOMO

THIS APPLIES to almost everyone. Well, the single ones, that is. A new SABC3 show is looking for foodies who are in search of love. So if MasterChef and Date My Family had a kid, it would be Dinner Date SA.

They say you can tell a lot about a person by what they eat. The truth of that gets tested by the show when love is found (or not) through the kitchen. A few people invited to the show will get to bring their cooking skills, which they will use to attract the people they are trying to date.

Think about it, if you are with someone special in your life, what meal would you prepare for them if you wanted to win their heart the first time you saw them?

There are two problems I can see that could come into play. The first one is that there can be a meal that you are really good at, and yet it is not the one that your “prey” is into.

The second one is that people who love food and can make it are usually precious about their dishes, so one small mistake is like a huge deal for them.

So you can imagine what Dinner Date SA is going to be about. You may look at a dress and feign liking it or fake a laugh at a dry joke, but there is not way you can trick the tongue.

It is just the way it is. Our palettes are like a truth serum as they react immediately. So without watching the show you already know that there is going to be drama with some of the contestants spitting out whatever is prepared for them.

This then leaves little room for the pursuing party to get what they wanted.

“Dinner Date is going to be a must watch with a melting pot of uniquely South African singles on the show showing how we as a rainbow nation cook with love,” said the managing director of Phoenix Media, which is the company behind this alongside Quzzical Pictures. Quzzical also gave us MasterChef, and so they would know how to treat a show like this.

Essentially five contestants have to present their threecourse menus to a person they like.

The person chooses three of the menus and the meals are made, and the said person gets to eat with the “chefs”.

Based on the chemistry both in the food and in person, the pursued person chooses who they want to have more dessert with, if you know what I mean.

Should you be interested in being on TV, eating and perhaps finding love, then Dinner Date SA is for you, and you should call 011 726 2828 or email date@ dinnerdatesa.co.za

All those who would like to apply must be aged between 21 and 65. They should also be currently living in Gauteng, as the show will be shot in the province.

This is the first year that this show will be on, and with some luck perhaps it will grow into something in which people from all over the country can take part.

You may fake a laugh, but there is no way you can trick the tongue
