SA model crowned World Supermodel

IN THE city of Macau on the south coast of China, across the Pearl River Delta, a young South African girl won the title of World Supermodel.

Belinde Bella Schreuder, 21, from Centurion told The Star’s sister paper, the Pretoria News, yesterday that she had participated in numerous modelling gigs, so she took a chance and entered the international modelling competition as it had been one of her goals. She first entered the Supermodel South Africa pageant when she was only 17 years old.

Schreuder’s modelling story began when she was a little girl visiting a market with her family and went on stage with girls who were taking part in a pageant.

Although she had not entered it, she felt the need to go and strut her stuff. “Modelling has been a sport for me,” she says. “Just like hockey and netball, modelling has always been my thing. I love what goes on behind it; it’s much more than just being a pretty face.”

Schreuder says she always wanted to compete internationally and as she’d entered the national competition in South Africa, she thought she’d take a chance on the international production.

One of the tasks they had to do was take to a catwalk on one of the tallest towers in the world, one that is 233m high.

“I was initially afraid, but when I finally got the hang of it, I wasn’t so scared of it anymore.”

She says this has to be one of the most prestigious titles she’s ever won, and describes the feeling of winning it as “unreal”.

The young woman completed her public relations qualification at Boston City Campus and Unisa, but says she still has a lot more stuff in store for her fans.

She has been approached by the Kleinvee Fees to help promote their festival.

She also has her own project, SA Schools, where she gives schoolchildren the opportunity to become ambassadors for their school so that they can help bring change to the world.

“The youth of today, is the future of tomorrow,” Schreuder firmly believes.
