Call to annex Palestine
SEVERAL far-right members of the Israeli parliament, or Knesset, have called for the permanent annexation of Israeli-occupied territory.
Their call came on Wednesday as Israel marked the 50-year anniversary of the 1967 Six Day War, on Monday, which united East and West Jerusalem and saw the Jewish state occupy the West Bank, Gaza, the Egyptian Sinai and the Syrian Golan Heights.
Since Monday, Palestinians have been commemorating what they call the Naksa, meaning “setback” in Arabic which saw 300 000 Palestinians, as well as thousands of Syrians, displaced from their homes.
