Maine unfit to lead youth league

- Thabile Mange

THE ANC youth league is regarded as a training ground for future leaders. It has produced a good crop of individuals who later became influential leaders.

For instance, it produced the likes of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. That said, can you imagine youth league leader Collen Maine as the future finance minister?

Anything is possible in politics. However, Maine’s future doesn’t look bright in politics. So it will take a miracle for him to be a cabinet minister.

The youth league leader can’t even make a political statement.

He’s also not a leading light and lacks substance. In addition, he has no vision or programme to improve the lives of the struggling youth in our country.

Every time he opens his mouth, he speaks out of turn. A few days ago he appeared on Justice Malala’s television programme, he was a disaster. He’s also trying hard to imitate former youth league leader Julius Malema. And he’s doing a bad job.

The pertinent question is: how did Maine become the leader of such a powerful youth organisation?

He emerged from nowhere to claim the top position. And he did nothing worthy to be elected to that position.

You don’t need a Master’s degree to see that he was anointed by the Guptas to become the youth leader.

He was put there to serve the interest of the family. And he’s doing a damn good job at that.

It’s a relief that he’s not eligible to stand for re-election. He is over age. Besides, he has nothing to offer to the youth. He is just a useful idiot to the Gupta family, who in turn help him pay his million-rand bond and maintain his lavish lifestyle. The youth deserve better.

It’s a relief that he’s not eligible for re-electlion
