Tired of bullying by taxis

FOR TOO long now, commuters travelling down Republic Road in Randburg have been victimised, intimidated and bullied by reckless taxi drivers who endanger all drivers down the road.

I write this letter in the hope that something will actually be done about it.

This morning again, I had one trying to squeeze past me, revving his engine, pushing the mirror of my car in and intentionally driving towards my car, trying to intimidate me to move over, which I did not!

I have reported this to the Randburg police station on several occasions, even sending a message on the Facebook link, and I was told they are fully aware of the situation. Yet, nothing is being done about it.

They once sent a police van whose occupants sat on the bonnet in View Road, watching the taxi – which obviously will behave if police are visible.

Something needs to be done about this – not just once a year or every four months. Active policing is needed, with reckless drivers locked up.

I have a photo of the taxi between the two lanes. The car in front of me gave him space. The taxi is a white Toyota Hilux with a white stallion sticker on the back window. It has no taxi association sticker.

I am tired of being bullied, tired of the police sitting on their backsides, doing nothing about it. I am prepared to go to every newspaper, to the minister of police himself, to get the police to take this seriously.

The taxis are a law unto themselves, doing what they want, driving through red robots – and they keep getting away with it.

I expect something to be done, as do many other residents of the Randburg area. Someone has to take interest in the safety of the public. We all have to get to work, we all have to sit in traffic and we all have to make a living. The difference is, I don’t break laws to do it.

I’d appreciate a response to this letter from the SAPS and an explanation as to why nothing is being done. Randburg
