Three Palestinians shot dead in West Bank

JERUSALEM: In continuing violence in the Israeli-occupied West Bank over the last several days, three Palestinians were shot dead, two others wounded, and a teenager lost his eye during clashes with Israeli security forces.

Early yesterday morning, 20-yearold Saad Salah was shot dead by Israeli soldiers in the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank.

Three other Palestinians were wounded, one seriously, during clashes with Israeli soldiers, who said that the Palestinians had thrown fire-bombs at them after the Israel Defence Force raided the camp, the Israeli daily Haaretz reported.

The critically injured Palestinian, 17-year-old Aws Muhammad Salamah, died in hospital yesterday.

In a separate incident on Tuesday, thousands of Palestinians took part in the funeral of Muhammad Jibril, 24, in the village of Tuqu, near Bethlehem, in the southern West Bank.

Jibril was shot dead by Israeli soldiers on Monday who accused him of attempting to carry out a vehicle attack, after which he emerged from his car with a knife and tried to stab them.

Meanwhile, 13-year-old Palestinian Nour Hamdan, from the occupied East Jerusalem village of Issawiya, lost his eye on Sunday after Israeli forces fired a sponge-tipped bullet during clashes with Palestinians.

According to Haaretz, Israeli police had entered Issawiya after a fight broke out between neighbours.

Palestinians then began to hurl rocks at the Israelis, who responded with crowd-control measures.

Hamdan was reportedly struck by the bullet as he played on the balcony of his second-floor home with other children. He also suffered facial fractures. Israeli forces began using black sponge-tipped bullets as a crowdcontrol weapon in 2014.
