METROWATCH:

R238 000 WATER BILL SHOCK

-

GARY BISSET OF SUNNINGHILL WRITES: I hope you can can help.

I was billed R238 000 at the end of March 2017. The account was for a period of 432 days. I had paid all the estimated accounts during this period, so you can imagine the shock. All the necessary follow-ups, phone calls, e-mails, contact with ward councillor Candice James, visits to the council in Sandton, have been undertaken, but to no avail. The water has been disconnected on two occasions.

I am a pensioner and have tenants in the house, who have decided to vacate due to the uncertainty of the water supply. THE CITY REPLIES: There are no job cards for any water repair that may have been completed by Johannesburg Water. The advice would be for the consumer to apply for a meter test to ascertain if this meter may be faulty. We have prepared a meter investigation for feedback on the reading for the water meter.
