You can have your say about suburban road closures

-

THE ISSUE of road closures for security reasons in Joburg suburbs has always been a sensitive one, with some residents in favour of these and others vehemently opposed to them.

In 2014, the city’s current “boom policy”, called the Security Access Restrictions Policy, was adopted, but there has always been confusion and legal issues surrounding these closures.

Last year, the Johannesburg Roads Agency forcibly removed booms from Hurlingham Manor North, claiming they were illegal.

The residents in the gated area immediately retaliated with court action, and the agency was forced to re-erect them.

Now the city has decided to relook at its policy, and several changes have been suggested, which are being submitted to the public for comment.

There will be a public meeting on Tuesday, November 7 at 6pm in the reception room, ground floor, chamber wing, Metro Centre Building, 158 Civic Boulevard, Braamfontein.

Comments and objections should be made by January 20 and be submitted in writing to the executive director of transport, Lisa Seftel, at Box 31923, Braamfontein 2000, or delivered to ninth floor, north wing, JRA Building, corner of Rahima Moosa (Jeppe) and Pixley Seme (Sauer) streets; emailed to wendyma@ joburg.org.za or call Wendy Mashitiso on 011-870-4544.
