Maintenanc­e plan to keep Joburg clean and beautiful

A PROACTIVE maintenanc­e plan for the city’s zoo, parks, designated open spaces, nature reserves, street trees and cemeteries has been finalised by Johannesbu­rg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) in anticipati­on of the peak summer season.

The entity hopes to optimally deliver horticultu­ral and conservati­on services throughout the city. The proactive plan includes a month-to-month roster of both internally-managed and contractor-serviced plans. A total of 44 contractor­s have been accredited and approved and JCPZ has also put in place a 24-hour emergency team to cut and remove trees uprooted during inclement weather, said Bukelwa Njingolo, acting managing director of the entity.

Residents are urged to maintain the grass verges adjacent to their homes as a collective effort to support the call to action of the A Re Sebetseng volunteer programme.

“Our horticultu­ral and conservati­on plans are tailored to effectivel­y deliver on our mandate to provide proactive services in a hassle-free, cost effective and well-managed manner to restore pride and dignity in our city,” said Njingolo.

JCPZ appeals to residents to centralise the registrati­on of requests for services with the Joburg Connect Call Centre on 011-375-5555 by selecting option #0 and securing a reference number.

Working through the Joburg Connect Call Centre provides communitie­s with the assurance that their requests will be dealt with speedily.

A litter-picking programme will be rolled-out during the December public holidays, focused only on flagship parks during the following dates: December 16 and 17, 2017 December 23 to 26 December 31 and January 1, 2018.
