More pools set to open
MORE swimming pools are set open soon. City of Joburg member of the mayoral committee for community development Nonhlanhla Sifumba, who in August embarked on site inspections of the pools to ensure their state of readiness for the swimming season, found at the time that out of the 57, only 49 pools would be ready for the start of the swimming season.
The remaining eight were closed due to major repairs and maintenance.
“The city takes the safety of its citizens very seriously, and additionally, has the responsibility to adhere to occupational health and safety regulations which necessitated the closure of some pools until repairs and maintenance are completed,” she said, speaking at the opening on October 25 of the Moffat Park swimming pool. Following scheduled repairs, the Senaoane pool was also opened on October 29.
Contractors are on site at East Bank, Davidsonville, Roodepoort, Lenasia extension 10, Rhodes Park and Robertsham swimming pools, which are scheduled to open between midNovember and December.
