South Africa go down in Burundi

-

THE SOUTH African Women Under-20 team’s World Cup hopes took a knock after they were edged 2-0 in the first leg of the second-round qualifiers by hosts Burundi on Saturday at the Prince Louise Rwagasore Stadium.

Goals in either half saw Basetsana lose out in Bujumbura.

Lack of communication between goalkeeper Jessica Williams and her defence saw Burundi pounce on a loose ball to make it 1-0 as early as the first minute.

In the second half, the South Africans came out guns blazing in search of the equaliser. However, Burundi scored on the break in the dying minutes to secure victory.
