Lipschitz is best actress
FORMER YoTV star Lara Lipschitz has won the Best Actress Award for her role in the web series Chin Up. The series started four years ago, Lipschitz told The Star’s sister paper, the Cape Argus.
“The first episode was broadcast on YouTube on November 19, 2013. It started as a once-off video just to be creative and proactive. I love comedy and I wanted to make something that would showcase that side of me,” she explained.
Growing up on television, Lipschitz has featured in soapies such as Isidingo and also acted with Hollywood stars, including Idris Elba and Daniel Radcliffe.
When asked how she felt about winning the award, she said: “I’m so excited and honoured. The standard of all the nominees was so high. It’s incredible and so validating to know that South Africa can compete internationally. It’s a real dream come true.”
She explained how the series was put together.
“I use material from my own experiences as an actress going to castings and often finding myself in ridiculous and awkward situations.”
Lipschitz described her stay in New York as “magical and surreal”.
“It has always been a dream of mine to come to New York with a project. I felt like I was in a movie the whole time.”
As encouragement to aspiring creatives, Lipschitz said she knew the web show wasn’t going to be perfect as she started out on a zero budget.
“I believe you just have to be brave and put yourself out there, because you learn and grow that way.”
