IN THE run-up to the Fifa World Cup, hip-hop megastar Cassper Nyovest raised the South African flag high as he debuted the local version of the official Coca-Cola Fifa World Cup anthem, Colors.

The multiple-award-winning artist, whose real name is Refiloe Phoolo, collaborated with global hitmaker Jason Derulo in Los Angeles and produced a fire track that will be released worldwide on March 16.

Last night, a select group of media and guests were invited to the first listening session of the Colors anthem, which was described as “refreshing”. The intimate session featured Nyovest and local radio personality and DJ Lerato Kganyago.

The pair recently returned from their trip to LA, where the song was recorded.

Nyovest said working with Derulo was a great experience.

“He’s a pop artist and I’m a rap artist, and it’s two different worlds coming together.”

He said he had added his unique South African flavour to their catchy track.

“In South Africa, we’ve got so many different backgrounds. And so we put all our colours and everything we could think of into the track, and it turned out great.”

He lauded Coca-Cola for making the project possible.

Nyovest was chosen to represent the country on the global stage, and the anthem celebrates all the excitement that comes with the arrival of the world’s biggest football event.

Known as “Mr Fill Up”, he was among the African artists from South Africa, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Mozambique and Ethiopia who collaborated with the US hitmaker.

Together they created uniquely African anthems for each of their countries.

Nyovest touched down from Mozambique, where he was part of the Fifa World Cup Trophy Tour, which will proceed to Soweto and Cape Town.

Coca-Cola was due to host fans for a Fifa World Cup Trophy Tour experience at Maponya Mall in Soweto today.

Fans at the mall can view the Fifa World Cup trophy; enjoy a guest appearance by Nyovest; take part in Fifa 2018 gaming activities; and interact with Zabivaka, the official World Cup 2018 mascot.
