Derby fans urged to use Rea Vaya

SOCCER fans can take the quick and easy route to the Soweto Derby tomorrow by using the Rea Vaya bus service.

“By using the Rea Vaya you will be avoiding traffic congestion and paying for parking, and you can join the festive spirit on the buses rooting for your favourite team,” according to a spokespers­on on transport for the City of Joburg.

Rea Vaya buses will operate from the Joburg inner city, Cresta, Auckland Park, Westbury, Bosmont, New Canada, Florida North, Parktown, Yeoville, Eldorado Park and Soweto to transport soccer fans to and from the FNB Stadium.

The Rea Vaya station at FNB Stadium will be open from 10am.

The T1 and C1 bus services will run at a frequency of 15 minutes in the morning and the T1 service will step up the service to a five-minute frequency from noon to 3.30pm. T3 will operate at 15-minute frequency throughout the day.

After the match, all services leaving from FNB Stadium will operate at three-minute frequencie­s. The service will end at 7pm. All feeder buses will operate at 20-minute frequencie­s, with the last bus leaving the starting point at 8pm.

Soccer fans can either use their smartcards or buy single- or double-trip cards, obtainable from all Rea Vaya stations. Single-trip cards cost R15 and double-trip cards cost R30.

Smartcard holders will pay fares based on the distance travelled to FNB Stadium.
