THE EMMY-nominated fashion design competition

Project Runway has officially sent out a call for entries for the Mzansi version of the show.

Mzansi Magic and Ndalo Pictures are scouting for fashion designers who are going to shine as they proudly present South Africa’s first version of Project Runway.

Ndalo Pictures, a new subsidiary company of South African media entrepreneur Khanyi Dhlomo’s Ndalo Media, has successfully secured the rights to produce Project Runway SA.

“South Africa has impressive design talent that is absolutely ready for an international show like this,” said Dhlomo.

“It’s engaging, informative, enlightening and entertaining. It’s about talent, about mentorship, opportunit, and pushing creativity past all boundaries… we’re incredibly proud to be able to bring this show to our shores,” said Dhlomo.

M-Net director of local entertainment channels Reneilwe Sema said: “Project Runway has done well internationally. We are excited to have the local version on Mzansi Magic.

“As a channel, we have successfully introduced scripted content and reality formats into the market. Project Runway SA will add value and variety to our content proposition.”

Producers have set rigorous entry criteria for the competition, and entries must be made by the end of March,” said Sema.

Twelve lucky designers will compete for their big break in the fashion industry, and the winner will get to go to the Paris Fashion Week in February next year to showcase their innovative designs.

Just like the hit reality show in the US, designers will be challenged to create garments within a certain time.

The materials and theme will be judged by a panel of industry giants.

The competition is only for South African residents, and for those who are over the age of 21.

South Africa has some catching up to do as the US is poised for its 17th season of the show.
