‘ANC AIDED AND ABETTED STATE CAPTURE PROJECT’

- NATHANIEL LEE

THE startling testimony by the executives from South Africa’s major banks at the state capture inquiry reveals the extent of the ANC’s complicity in aiding and abetting state capture.

The executives of Standard Bank, Absa, FNB and Nedbank, following the closure of the Gupta family-linked accounts, said they were summoned to Luthuli House, ostensibly to clarify the banking regulations pertaining to the closure of these accounts.

Such a move was suspicious from the outset as it was clear the ANC had felt aggrieved by the banks’ stance and had therefore resolved to take the fight to the banks on behalf of the Gupta family. These revelations place the entire ANC, not only former president Jacob Zuma, at the centre of state capture as it implicates its top leadership in the form of former secretary-general Gwede Mantashe; deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte; and the head of economic transformation Enoch Godongwana.

Given the testimony of former deputy finance minister Mcebisi Jonas that a Gupta brother had boasted to him that they were in control of everything, mentioning the NPA, the Hawks and the NIA, it becomes increasingly clear that it was not only these state organs which were captured, but the entire governing party. This reality serves to explain the role played by Zuma in state capture as he was emboldened by the knowledge that the party he led was fully behind him in his treasonous machinations to outsource his executive powers to the Guptas, in violation of his oath of office.

This might also explain the veiled threats Zuma has been making to reveal malfeasance within the ANC following his forced resignation. The file he was holding during his clandestine meeting with the alliance officials at the Maharani Hotel might contain some of the evidence.

It has become a sine qua non (an essential condition) for the ANC to apply to the commission to give its side of the story and cross-examine those who have implicated it, in an effort to clear its name. Adding further intrigue to the interference in the bank/client relationship is the fact that an inter-ministerial committee under the leadership of Gupta induna and former minister of mineral resources, Mosebenzi Zwane, was established to probe the banks to clarify their stance in closing the Guptas’ accounts.

Zwane is said to have ultra vires (beyond his legal authority), threatened to cancel the banks’ operating licences – a prerogative of the SA Reserve Bank. As things stand, it seems it would be difficult for many ANC operatives to pass through the proverbial eye of the needle insofar as state capture is concerned.

It seems ANCWL president Bathabile Dlamini knew what she was talking about when she remarked that many in the ANC have their“smallanyana skeletons”. Next year South Africans with have a chance to arrest the slide to a failed state. Klipspruit, Soweto
