BILLIONS were spent by South Africa on acquiring submarines to supposedly patrol our vulnerable seas and confront opportunist Chinese and Japanese fishing trawlers as they decimate our sea life.

Rumour is that our navy is virtually non-existent and our naval fleet inoperative, including the very expensive submarines. It seems our navy has imploded, with a fleet of frigates and submarines in a repair shop somewhere in Simon’s Town.

Would the Minister of Defence, together with the admiral of our navy, offer an explanation?

THANK YOU for your articles highlighting the prevalence of diabetes. I am appalled at the treatment the widow is getting from medical aid following the tragic, violent death of her husband and them saying that he hadn’t disclosed his blood sugar status. He didn’t die of diabetes.

Our grandson is a Type 1 diabetic who was diagnosed more than two years ago.

All in his medical support team – paediatrician, dietitian and other doctors – have prescribed a special long-acting insulin for him and a monitoring device, but medical aid will not pay for any of this. The boy’s mother is a widowed single mother trying to make ends meet, educate him and maintain medical aid payments as well. Who can she appeal to?
