When truth is too much
Host Molemo ‘Jub Jub’ Maarohanye weighs in on Moja Love’s controversial reality show, Uyajola 99, being staged and more, writes Thobile Mazibuko
MEDIA were invited to the finale of season three of Uyajola 99 at Soweto Theatre earlier this week.
However, there was a two-anda-half-hour delay in getting started, which was compounded by host Jub Jub’s late arrival.
The episode was hosted by comedian Mashabela Galane.
Before he could call up Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye and Moss “Bra Moss” Makwati, Uyajola 99 presenters to join him on stage, Ami Faku opened the show with a kickass performance.
Bra Moss and Jub Jub were then called in and the crowd went crazy.
Then it was time to answer a few questions around speculation of the unscripted show being staged and whether some kind of help was provided afterwards for any of the people on the show.
Recently, Uyajola 99 received a lot of flak for adding to a woman’s humiliation by filming her naked.
Jub Jub slammed the criticisms, saying: “The reason why we’re not other TV stations is that we’re not trying to hear from a white person to say ‘here’s a script, do this and do that’. For the first time in your life, there’s a black child that comes with a channel that shows content that happens in Kasi. They portray black people’s everyday living. Now that we’re showing that they say it’s too much drama.
“When we’re showing the truth, they say it’s staged. We’re from Kasi, they don’t know what we deal with every day. So when you see such content on television it’s real.
“That’s why I’m not going to entertain the media or anyone who says the show is staged. If they think it’s staged they must check our mail. There’s a procedure. When we get there we ask you if you want a confrontation. There’s also a follow-up where we ask whether you want counselling or not.”
According to the stats revealed, 70% of the people who write in to the show are men concerned about their partners being unfaithful.
While some people think that shows like Uyajola 99 are not necessary, others feel that they are very much needed because they are “fixing the country.”
Asked about his most shocking story, Jub Jub said it was the one where a woman confronted her boyfriend for having a side chick outside of their relationship, only to find out that she was also a side chick to a married man.
For Bra Moss, it was the one where a man raised his neighbour’s son as his own for 20 years.
Uyajola 99 will be back in December for the fourth season.
The final episode of this season will broadcast on Sunday on Moja Love (DStv channel 157) at 9pm.
