ARSENAL ARE A LAUGHING STOCK AND MUST CHANGE

ARSENAL have endured turbulent times since the departure of their legendary manager Arsene Wenger.

When he was in charge, the supporters were calling for his head in his final years at the club.

Before last season Wenger departed but nothing has changed since he parted ways with the club.

It is the same story but a different script. They finished outside of the top four last season, which is something that Wenger hardly ever did during his tenure at the club.

They reached the Europa League final but still lost to their bitter rivals Chelsea. So clearly Wenger wasn’t the problem at the club. I feel for Unai Emery, I really feel for the poor guy.

Obviously the team experienced dire times this season. They went on their worse run in 42 years. That is not good enough at a big team like Arsenal, but I still feel that he wasn’t given enough time.

Wenger worked on a shoestring budget for much of his time at Arsenal. He turned raw talent into gold. The Frenchman still delivered silverware despite losing most of his star players. Financially, Arsenal made a lot of money under Wenger and still won trophies and finished in the top four on a consistent basis. He mastered that.

But Arsenal must comprehend that football is evolving. They must move with the times if they want to compete against the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

These clubs have invested in their squads. The results are showing. So, even if Arsenal bring in another manager, they won’t solve their problems.

The Gunners’ bosses must decide if they still want to be regarded as a big team or an average side. At the moment they are average. I feel for their supporters. They love their team. They want to see the glory days coming back but it looks like they have to wait a little longer.

It is not like they haven’t signed players in the past but they need big-name players. Getting top players means you need to break the bank and acquire their services.

They can’t be a selling team and expect to challenge for major honours. That can’t happen. Arsenal should know their priorities, otherwise they will keep on changing coaches like underwear.

The problem is not with the coaches. The problem is with the board; they need to change their mentality. They need to realise that this is a big team and act like they are running a big team, otherwise they will continue to be a laughing stock.

Manchester United have changed coaches after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson but what have they achieved? Sometimes you can change managers and hope for instant success but it doesn’t work.

Carlo Ancelotti is unemployed and he is a perfect candidate to take over the coaching reins at Arsenal. ‘King Carlo’ is experienced and a proven manager. His track record speaks volumes. He is all about results. He has done it in Italy, England and Spain, and can do it at Arsenal. But he needs to be backed in the transfer market.

So the ball is in Arsenal’s court.
