Bold and beautiful on Sona red carpet
WHILE the State of the Nation Address (Sona) was a disruptive affair as usual last night, a few MPs and guests hit the right notes when it came to fashion and glamour.
Yesterday’s red carpet was a mixed bag, with some toning down the dress and others who made a real effort to dress up. The EFF turned up in their tiresome red overalls and domestic worker attire.
Former Assembly ANC deputy chief whip Doris Dlakude and her daughter Desiree were among the first to arrive in matching red dresses. Dlakude wore a full-length gown with an embellished bodice while Desiree was in a red figure-hugging dress.
Deputy Communications Minister Pinky Kekana walked the red carpet in a peachy-pink number with a cream-white bag. Her boss,Communications Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams showed off her figure in a flowing peach, silky dress.
Another hit was DA spokesperson on communications MP Phumzile Van Damme, who looked stunning in a two-piece ensemble with a filmy skirt and a detailed blazer.
Former Tshwane mayor and DA member Solly Msimanga looked dapper in a green slim suit which he paired with dark sunglasses.
One of the couples who stole the show were Police Minister Bheki Cele and wife Thembeka in an avocado gown with gold detail in front while her husband stood out in a black suit with his signature fedora hat.
Another hit was Mbulelo Bara and Angel Khanyile from the DA but Khanyile’s bling platform shoes seemed outdated. Nelson Mandela’s grandson Mandla and wife Nosekeni Rabia came to impress in their matching Xhosa attire as usual.
DA leader John Steenhuisen and wife, Terry, looked plain and boring in a black suit and a navy blue dress.
