Tar plant chain full of holes

-

Dear Councillor Sean Kreusch. I noted your name mentioned in the Metrowatch section of The Star (February 28) “Serious holes in mayor’s pothole pledge”.

I myself am wondering about sinking funds and commissions.

I would assume that the asphalt plant would function better between the departments of transport and economic development.

I am merely a concerned citizen who has been reporting potholes along Cleveland Road between Jules Street and Main Reef Road (DA Ward 118) since January 16, and have only been delivered empty promises and excuses from all in this seemingly collusionary and complicit dysfunctional and unsustainable city of ours.

Where is this asphalt plant

JOHN WILKINSON WRITES:

supposed to be located? With a rumoured R40 billion of potholes needing repair, it should be “pumping” tar 48-hours a day!

COUNCILLOR SEAN KREUSCH REPLIES:

I will raise this with the Joburg Roads Agency, the acting managing director in our section 79 committee.

The asphalt depot is in Booysens and, quite frankly, is under-performing even though it is state-of-the-art. Simply put, the ANC government at the time did not think of a mainteance contract for a very sophisticated plant. A lot of the hot tar is “misplaced” en route and because the tar travels from Booysens to the north, it’s useless by the time it gets to the site.

As you may be aware, the head of the city’s supply chain is under investigation and has been suspended.
