Katy confirms pregnancy in video
KATY Perry is pregnant.
The 35-year-old hitmaker revealed a burgeoning baby bump at the very end of the music video for her brand new single Never Worn White released on Thursday.
This will be her first child with fiancée Orlando Bloom as the 43-year-old actor is already father to 9-year-old son Flynn with ex-wife Miranda Kerr.
Perry confirmed the news on Twitter just minutes after the world premiere as she wrote: “omg so glad I don’t have to suck it in anymore.”
She continued: “or carry around a big purse lol.”
Nearly an hour after the video’s premiere, Perry took to her Instagram to speak exclusively on her pregnancy announcement.
In the short live-stream, Perry revealed that her impending child with Bloom would be born sometime in the summer months.
“There’s a lot that’s happening this summer. Not only will I be giving birth, literally, and figuratively…to something you guys have been waiting for,” said Perry.
When asked about her feelings on being an expectant mother, Perry expressed eagerness, as well as overwhelming relief in finally being able to share her life-altering news with the world.
“I’m excited, we’re excited, and happy. It’s probably the longest secret I’ve ever had to keep.”
She added: “I thought I would tell you guys in the best way, through a piece of music.”
Aside from her pregnancy, the
Roar songstress also made sure to fill fans in on her upcoming music plans.
“While (Never Worn White) is not the lead single, it’s a good way to start out, I had to reveal it (the pregnancy) at some point. It’s getting pretty obvious,” concluded Perry, before signing off.
Perry’s celebrity colleagues took to Twitter to send excited congratulations.
Cardi B replied with:
“OMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGGGG” followed by a slew of heart emojis.
Katherine McPhee wrote: “Congrats queen!” Wishing you love and happiness always!”
With the pregnancy reveal so fresh, Perry is sure to receive a ton of congrats from her famous friends by morning.
In the nearly four-minute music video, Perry caressed her stomach repeatedly, but did not give fans the explicit answer they desired until the video’s dramatic finale.
With Perry standing dead centre for most of the production, audiences were able to focus on the song’s raw and emotional lyrics.
The singer’s new track details her struggle with commitment, but, also, with her deep desire to let go of fear and succumb to the vulnerability of love.
“Cause I’ve never worn white, but I wanna get it right. Yeah, I really wanna try with you,” sings Perry.
“No, I’ve never worn white, but I’m standin’ here tonight cause I really wanna say I do.”
Perry, who got engaged to Bloom on Valentine’s Day in 2019, has already been put through the marital ringer.
Perry wed comedian Russell Brand in 2011, but would divorce the funny man less than a year later.
The singer donned a dramatic white gown in the Never Worn White video, but transitioned into an elaborate floral ensemble that nearly consumed her 1.76m frame.
The video’s finale places Perry in her most stripped down form, which revealed not only herself, but her baby-to-be to the world.
Perry and Bloom have had a whirlwind romance dating back to 2016, when the pair formed instant heart-eyes for one another while mingling at a Golden Globes after party.
The pair became an official couple in mid-2016, going on to sport epic Hilary Clinton and Bill Clinton Halloween costumes.
A Bloom source added: “They both want kids together and will prioritise this.”
