FOUR HOMELESS
MALES ISOLATED
THE City of Joburg’s proactive team, which monitors homeless shelters, has isolated four males from the Jan Hofmeyer Recreation Centre (one of the temporary homeless shelter) who were showing flu-like symptoms.
It is part of the City’s efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19.
A team of medical professionals visit all the homeless shelters to assess the health conditions of all residents on a daily basis.
On arrival this week, the team identified four homeless people housed at Jan Hofmeyer Recreation Centre who showed flue-like symptoms which included coughing, fever and other respiratory symptoms.
These people have since been separated from other residents at the shelter. They were tested for Covid-19 and taken to a community health centre.
The test results are expected in three to five days.
“The City wishes to clarify that the action taken by the health officials is just a precaution and not a confirmation of a Covid-19 case at the centre. Stringent measures are in place to curb the spread of this virus at our homeless shelters,” said City spokesperson Nthatisi Modingoane.
Those who were in contact with the said persons are being monitored and screened.
