South Africans reacted on social media to a letter by President Cyril Ramaphosa denouncing corruption within the ANC
@Mfundoyakhe_S
Mr President, I’m afraid to say you are a bit “late”. It looks like South Africans have decided who they want to lead them. This is your third year as ANC president but little progress has been recorded. People want an accountable government that will put South Africa first.
@denver_rix
Statements, commissions, briefings, ministerial task teams, condemnation, mandates, talks, workshops, talks about talks, investigations, probes, committees, debates, and so on, and so forth. Yet – no arrests.
@kagisonkhoma
I maintain that the turning point in fighting corruption is the unsealing of the CR17 bank statements, if the president wants to inspire confidence, let him unseal the records first. Other than that, it’s just a hollow PR stunt.
@iamSegopi
I hear you, Mr President, but I’m not yet convinced. Can’t the ANC hire an independent body to investigate its members? This thing of investigating yourself is also promoting corruption, as those who are found out are given a slap on the wrist. We’ve had enough now.
@Gamede_SC
My President, statements are great but the problem is we are not seeing action. High time we see prominent political figures involved in corruption facing the full might of the law. It’s time for action.
@LuzukoMngqibisa
I hope from now on, the president really takes the fight against corruption with boldness and seriousness regardless of whether his own close comrades are implicated.
@Bosele_Nkwe
All talk, no action. I am one of those who have been so loyal to the ANC, I am angry, disappointed and feel betrayed. The ANC has used the people of this country to enrich themselves and their cronies.
@Guerrilla_Lakho
Of course the ANC is not going to stand in the dock, it is the individuals within it. However, the ANC is going to meet the wrath of South Africa-loving citizens at the ballot in the next coming general elections, we are going to vote them out of power.
@gwele_zola
It remains to be seen whether this letter is a declaration of things to come or another commitment that will be undermined by yet another controversial deployment by the ANC, or a contradictory statement by party members. There clearly is a problem of disobedience.
@PaulVolkerSA
This really angers me. If he was genuine, he would have called all the implicated cadres and instructed them to step down from whatever positions they hold.
@Reuben54855029
If we (South Africans) can see cadres in orange overalls and paying back the looted billions, then I will believe everything the ANC is saying.
