US to impose ‘flood of sanctions’ on Iran

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump’s administra­tion is planning to impose a “flood of sanctions” on Iran by January 20, when Presidente­lect Joe Biden will be inaugurate­d, a media report said.

The administra­tion, in co-ordination with Israel and several Gulf states, is pushing for the new sanctions, Israeli sources said.

US envoy for Iran Elliott Abrams was to brief Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz and Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi on the sanctions plan yesterday. He is also due to visit the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia to discuss it. On October
