MISS South Africa Shudufhadzo Musida, pictured, is today doing a 5km run to raise funds for mental wellbeing.

In partnership with Discovery Vitality and the SA Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG), the reigning queen would be accompanied by Miss Supranational SA and Miss SA 2020 first runner-up Dr Thato Mosehle, who will be representing South Africa at the Miss Supranational pageant later this year.

Discovery Vitality – which has partnered with Shudufhadzo and her successful #MindfulMondays initiative – will be donating R20 000 to SADAG on Miss SA’s behalf.

Members of the public are invited to join the Team Vitality running community on Strava (social network for athletes) and run with her for free.

“Mental health is a cause close to my heart and I am delighted to be able to do something to raise much-needed money for SADAG, which is doing such a wonderful job at this stressful time. I encourage everyone to join me virtually as well as to donate to this very worthy organisation,” she said.

The #MindfulMondays concept has been well received by South Africans who have been engaging with Shudufhadzo on social media around the topic of mental health.

Over the weeks, discussion topics included teenage depression and anxiety, stress, as well the stigma surrounding mental health, depression and its causes and symptoms.

This conversation has been a major topic on social media recently after a number of events including the death of Anele Tembe (rapper AKA’s fiancée) as well as the alleged suicide of a schoolgirl in Limpopo.
