VUSI NOVA’S HIT CLIMBS THE CHARTS

- ANITA NKONKI

THERE is no doubt that the growth of amapiano has introduced music fanatics to a new set of creatives who have kept people entertained while also attracting artists from other genres into this newest genre of music.

When popular music sensation Vusumuzi Nongxa, fondly known as Vusi Nova, decided to venture into this currently dominant genre, everyone was taken by surprise as he is known for his soulful music.

After the debut of his amapiano single Shuku Shuku, the 37-year-old created a frenzy on social platforms, evoking a variety of views.

This major transformation was accompanied by the announcement of his new alter ego, Snova.

Although many were doubtful of his move, the South Africa Radio Monitor revealed that Snova’s hit single is doing well and claimed the number 3 spot in December.

In an interview with TshisaLive, Nongxa said he was grateful to see that people were finally warming to his new music. “I’m really excited that people have supported Shuku Shuku and the feedback from the fans has also been positive.

“It’s been a very bumpy year for the music industry and artists because of the uncertainty of whether we were going to be open during the festive season, considering the new variant (Omicron). So it was hard for promoters to plan.

“We are fortunate we survived 2021, and I would like to send condolences to all the families who have lost lives during this pandemic,” he said.

While venturing to amapiano, the star assured his fans that Vusi Nova would not be going anywhere. It’s just that he had to introduce Snova.

“I just want to clarify, I’m not changing my name or rebranding. Okay, maybe there is a bit of rebranding happening. Vusi Nova has an alter ego called Snova who does the Yanos.”

The award-winning music sensation explained that he wanted to explore other genres as well.
