It’s silly to compare Russian invasion of Ukraine to Israeli situation

HAVING read Dr Phungula’s article, “SA’s Foreign Policy Balancing Act”, I am amazed a political science lecturer could be so ignorant of the facts in the Middle East.

Dr Phungula compares the invasion of the Ukraine by Russia to the the Israeli and Palestinian situation. Nothing’s further from the truth.

May I remind Phungula the Jews settled that land 3 500 years ago, long before there were Palestinians and have lived in this land all that time. King Saul and King David ruled over the Jewish nation and it was there that the two temples were built.

Despite having been conquered by the Romans, Babylonians, Assyrians and other nations, they have always returned to Israel and Jerusalem. MAURICE SACKSTEIN | Birnam Park
