$9M FOR MARADONA’S JERSEY

-

THE jersey that Argentina football star Diego Maradona wore while scoring against England in the 1986 World Cup, including the infamous “hand of God” goal, was auctioned for $9.3 million

(about R146m), a record for any sports memorabilia, Sotheby’s said. Seven bidders vied for it in an auction that began on April 20 and ended on Wednesday. Sotheby’s didn’t release the name of the buyer. The jersey had been owned by Steve Hodge, who swopped his jersey with Maradona after England lost 2-1. |
