Foundation and Dis-Chem deliver

- ANITA NKONKI

SANITARY towels remain one of the most crucial things that every young girl needs to be able navigate through their daily life more easily.

Imbumba foundation along with Dis-Chem have made it their priority to ensure that girls who need sanitary towels are provided for.

They were part of a programme that delivered hundreds of pads to a local girls' school, Athlone Girls’ High School, where girls went home with packets of sanitary towels.

The event was graced by all the structures that pioneered the initiative giving reasons why this is fundamental to them.

The main purpose of this campaign is to empower schoolgirls, raise awareness about women's health, and give these girls the opportunity to continue their education without the restraint of hygiene risks, discomfort, embarrassment, or the loss of dignity.

Richard Mabaso from the Imbuba Foundation also shared how essential the initiative is for him.

“For me as a person who is a male, and who has a story about his niece. When she started her periods two things happened.

“She did not know what was happening. And she could not get a packet of sanitary pads on the day because I was not empowered.

“So I had to break out of that closet and come out and say I want to be that guy.

“I want to be that uncle and brother who can easily go to that shop and get them.”

Jacqueline who runs the foundation encouraged the public to also help make a difference by using their benefits card every time they make a purchase.

“The Dis-Chem Group encourages the public to make use of their Benefits Card every time they purchase at one of their stores so that the DisChem Foundation can continue making a difference in the lives of the communities it has served for so many years.”

Over the past seven years The Dischem Foundation has been making sure this need is delivered to those in need of assistance.
