Better life for all snuffed out thanks to Eskom

-

I’M A general practitioner in Khutsong township, Carletonville, rendering family medical services to the community. It has been three months that we have been without electricity due to a blown-out transformer.

The transformer blew up during the time of load shedding, when the power returned. It was never vandalised nor tampered with.

As things stand, I can neither do the necessary procedures properly nor manage the practice to the best of my ability because the power back-ups aren’t sustainable.

Meanwhile, Eskom is debiting my bank account as I’m on debit order for monthly usage payments.

When I asked why it has been debiting my account for three months even though I haven’t had electricity, it says it’s estimated consumption.

We fought for democracy, for a better life and health for all, but all the sacrifices have come to haunt us simply because Eskom has no direct competitor and is thus surviving on its monopoly, and poor and ineffective leadership.
