AT LEAST 12 people were killed after a wall at a salt packaging factory collapsed yesterday in India’s western state of Gujarat, police said. It was unclear what caused the 3.6m high wall to come down but police said they will be investigat­ing the owner of the site for negligence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is from Gujarat, called the incident at the Sagar Salt factory in the industrial area of Havald town a “heartrendi­ng” tragedy. Modi also announced 200 000 rupees ($2 578) compensati­on for the families of those who lost their lives. |

BELARUSIAN President Alexander Lukashenko has signed a law on the ratificati­on of an agreement with Russia on the transporta­tion of nuclear materials, the Belarusian National Centre of

Legal Informatio­n said yesterday. The agreement regulates Russian-Belarusian bilateral co-operation in the field of the transporta­tion of nuclear fuel assemblies, the irradiated fuel assemblies of nuclear reactors, and radioactiv­e waste. It will apply only to nuclear materials generated by the Belarusian nuclear power plant. | Sputnik

THE total output value of China’s satellite navigation and location services industry reached ¥469 billion (about $69.6bn) in 2021, up 16.3% from the previous year, according to an industry white paper issued by the Global Navigation Satellite System and Location Based Service Associatio­n of China. Applicatio­ns of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System have been widely introduced into business fields and daily life, said the associatio­n, adding that mass consumptio­n has become one of the major sectors. |
