Marchant named in Titans squad
FRESH off claiming eight wickets in his debut Test for the Proteas, fast bowler Marchant de Lange has been included in the Titans squad for their Supersport Series match against the Warriors starting in Benoni tomorrow. De Lange returned figures of 7/81 and 1/45 in the Boxing Day Test in Durban against Sri Lanka.

Becks to stay put in LA – Leonardo
DAVID Beckham will not join Paris Saint-germain, the big-spending Qatar-backed French club’s sporting director Leonardo said yesterday. “He will not come to PSG,” said the Brazilian, citing “family reasons” for the 36-year-old former England captain’s decision not to relocate from Los Angeles to the French capital.
Pep still undecided on his future
BARCELONA coach Pep Guardiola says he still has not signed a new contract with the European champions. Guardiola, whose current deal expires at the end of the season, says he has “not taken any decision” about his future. Athletic Bilbao coach Marcelo Bielsa has been recently mentioned as a possible successor and Guardiola says the Chilean would be a good choice. Guardiola has won 13 of a possible 15 trophies since taking charge of Barcelona in 2008, including two Champions League titles and three straight Spanish league titles.
Mcclaren set to re-join FC Twente
THE Dutch state broadcaster says that former England coach Steve Mcclaren will return to FC Twente, replacing current coach Co Adriaanse. Mcclaren won the Dutch league title with Twente in 2010. Twente is currently in third place, but relations between the coach and players and assistant trainers have been strained.
Bayern Munich in talks with Gazprom
GERMAN Bundesliga club Bayern Munich have confirmed that they are in discussion with energy company Gazprom with a view towards entering into a sponsorship agreement. The Russian company currently sponsor Bayern rivals Schalke 04, but in a report made available yesterday ahead of today’s publication in Sport
Bild Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness confirmed that discussions are taking place. “If we co-operate with Gazprom, it will not be instead of Schalke, it will be us and Schalke. That is something that I have told my friend Clemens Toennies (Schalke official),” Hoeness is quoted as saying.
Reyes told us he wants to leave – Diego
ATLETICO Madrid coach Diego Simeone says forward Jose Antonio Reyes wants to leave the club. The 28-year-old former Arsenal player has been earmarked for a move since falling out with previous coach Gregorio Manzano. Manzano was fired and replaced by Simeone in December following a string of bad results, including a humiliating Copa del Rey exit against third-tier club Albacete. Despite the coaching change, Simeone says Reyes “told us he wants to leave.” Simeone says he would like to keep the winger, but the club “can’t wait on any player.” Reyes has been linked with a move to Sevilla.
Second spell for Pugh as Leeds player
LEEDS have signed Danny Pugh from Premier League Stoke on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee in an attempt to bolster their bid for a return to English football’s top flight. The 29year-old has been on loan from the Midlands club this season but has now impressed Leeds manager Simon Grayson sufficiently to be offered a full-time contract at Elland Road. It will be Pugh’s second spell as a full Leeds player after he originally joined the Yorkshire side from English champions Manchester United in 2004. Now, he will be aiming to help Leeds get promotion from the Championship after signing a twoand-a-half-year contract.
France beat Australia in Hopman Cup
RICHARD Gasquet beat Lleyton Hewitt 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 yesterday as France clinched a 2-0 win over Australia at the eight-team Hopman Cup. Earlier, Marion Bartoli had little trouble giving France a 1-0 lead, beating Jarmila Gajdosova 6-0, 6-0 and sending the Australian off the court in tears. With a winning French lead, the later mixed doubles involving all four players was only going to help determine final group placings. – SapaAp/afp/reuters
