One cyclist in casualty, two seriously injured after collision, hit and run
THREE cyclists were injured in collisions with vehicles yesterday morning.
A security guard is being treated in the casualty ward of Polokwane Provincial Hospital after both his legs were broken when he collided with a VW Kombi in Emerald Street at 7.35am.
“ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the man in the middle of the road and in a lot of pain,” said ER24 spokesman Derrick Banks.
The driver of the vehicle was unharmed.
“It is unclear who was to blame for the accident,” said Banks.
A man and a woman were injured at about the same time in Hillcrest, Kwazulu-natal, after they were apparently knocked off their bicycles by an unknown white vehicle as they were cycling up Fields Hill.
“The 62-year-old man and 28-year-old woman did not see the vehicle coming as they were hit from behind,” said ER24 spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson.
“The driver then fled the scene after both of the cyclists had fallen to the ground,” she said.
Both cyclists were rushed to Hillcrest Private Hospital in a serious condition.
The incidents follow the deaths of two tandem cyclists who were killed when a police van allegedly hit them while they were riding on the R550 in Eikenhof, south of Joburg, on Monday.
