31 die in Mexican prison riot

CIUDAD VICTORIA, Mexico: Authorities say 31 inmates have been killed by fighting in a prison in northern Mexico.

Tamaulipas state Public Safety Department said the inmates had been killed with makeshift knives during a fight yesterday in a state prison in the Gulf mira.

The department said in a brief statement that another 13 prisoners had been wounded. It said 22 of the inmates killed had been serving sentences for state crimes and nine for federal offences. – Sapa-ap
