Australia go with young bowlers against Proteas

- STUART HESS

AUSTRALIA’S selectors have given priority to the six Tests their side will play this summer – three of those against South Africa – in picking a one-day squad to tour this country that features three uncapped medium pace bowlers.

Daniel Worrall, Chris Tremain and Joe Mennie, all unfamiliar to South African watchers, will hope to make an impression in the absence of more household names; Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, who

are being ‘rested’ with an eye on the three-match Test series against South Africa in November and then a three-Test series against the current No 1 team in the world Pakistan.

In the absence of Starc and Hazlewood the Australian attack will be led by John Hastings and Scott Boland.

The batting line-up is a strong one – featuring the return of skipper Steve Smith, who was rested for the last few ODIs in Sri Lanka recently, Dave Warner, George Bailey and Aaron Finch.

In Mitchell Marsh and James Faulkner they have two powerful lower order hitters and smart medium pace bowlers, providing the squad with depth and variety.
