Revisit norms and values to restore glory of Christianity

- Joubertpark

CHRISTIANITY has lost its touch. Its norms and values should be strictly revised.

The definition of Christianity, its understanding and practices might vary from one group to another as a result of our notions, idealism and perception about it, but the fact is Christianity is a communion of believers in Jesus Christ, His teachings and salvation.

Christians gather to share one faith, pray, teach and worship together in churches, a custom that dates back to the synagogue era.

Synagogues were considered sacred places because they were believers’ rendezvous where they worshipped, taught, preached, held feasts and healed the sick. However, it is a pressing concern that there is a moral shift in the way Christianity is practised in some churches today.

Motives, aims and agendas are a U-turn from the founding norms and values. It cannot be ruled out that today’s Christians and churches are a blasphemy in the eyes of God. They are nothing but a spotlight of human hypocrisy, idiocy and ignorance as they have turned into businesses.

Touch has been lost, churchgoers are vulnerable in the hands of pastors who have become vultures.

True Christianity still exists, but it is displeasing to note that aims and agendas are a shift and turnaround. First, we worship or go to church hoping for miracles, to find marriages, get a job, overcome pestilence and financial sufficiency instead of seeking first the Kingdom of God. That leaves Christians vulnerable to all the devilment. Kudzai Mutizwa
